Here, my key role is developing age-relative and context specific fundamental skills suitable for a future in elite sport.
During the afternoon, I coach Viking Stavanger, competing in Norways Elite Series, the Rema1000 Ligaen.
In the evening I own and manage Harrington Handball, an online platform which produces and shares content, training ideas, and informal learning to anyone willing to engage! My YouTube channels HarringtonHandball (player development) and The Handball Academy (drills & exercises) primarily host my video content. My website hosts my shop & coaching blog, which primarily tackles talent development in Handball. My CV and in-depth background can be found on my LinkedIn profile. You can contact me directly via the contact page

Even with the development of technology and hundreds of different online planning tools, I remain very old school about planning and setting out my practices for my youth and elite senior teams. I plan using pen and paper, or on my tablet using a template. To make the process simple and efficient i complete a practice plan before training so i am as prepared as possible.
Over time have created a whole range of ready-to-go templates which are available for one-off download individually or as a complete pack via my coaching shop
The blog
I have been fortunate enough to have travelled as a Handball coach, gaining some valuable experiences along the way. I hold a bachelor degree in Coaching Development, and a Masters degree in High performance coaching with psychology , as well as Handball specific licences.
I try to take my journey as both a Handball player turned coach, combine them with my formal education within the coaching profession, and present it through my blog, which focusses on everything from talent development to High-Performance Handball.
Player development
I started my coaching journey in talent development. Something about attempting to help junior players realise their potential is incredibly rewarding, and is part of the reason i created HarringtonHandball player development content. Through my youtube channel HarringtonHandball I tackle some of the most common technical skills of Handball, break them down, and provide a range of walk-through, live practices, and how-to videos for both coaches and players.

Handball shooting (12+ yrs) Wing shooting with added challenges!

Learning to shoot efficiently is of course about the 'correct technique'. However, there is no amount of technique that will score a goal without the brain first organizing, sorting, prioritizing the 100's processes before execution of the shot. We can compare these processes to an internet connection. A good 4G internet connection makes browsing the net faster and more efficient, and a slow dial up internet connection will be more time consuming, frustrating, and a less enjoyable experience. Our hope is that our players learn to have a 4G internet connection on the handball court! Let's take shooting from the wing as an example; . From the moment the player registers that a shooting opportunity might happen to the moment the ball leaves their hand after the shot, there are masses of processes the brain must calculate, organize, prioritise, and execute, just like an internet connection. The faster these processes can be calculated the more efficient the whole process will be. . There are preparation processes (timing, positioning, calculation of potential movement patterns whilst the ball is on its way, the approach to the jump, an assessment of the defender/goalkeepers positioning & actions). There are also execution processes - the initiation of the 3 steps, the jump, the direction of the jump, the shot selection. . Are you one of those players, or do you coach one of those players who has excellent tech/physical attributes but still struggles to score on a regular basis? Are you a player with 'poor' technique but a habit of scoring from the wing? I'd bet that these brain processes have something to do with it... . Here are a few examples of exercises I use to develop 4G handball players.Sports
Handball Pivot exercise (12yrs + ) - Pivot screening

You will need; •1 Pivot •1 Active defender •1 Static defender •1 or 2 passers . This pivot exercise requires the attacking pivot to hold the defender away, and at the best moment, to move into the line of the pass before shooting. If the pivot cannot hold the defender away the pass will not successfully reach the pivot. . The passer starts the competition by bouncing the ball. At this moment the pivot must protest the space and invite the pass, and the defender must attempt to move around the pivot and stop the pas into pivot. . DEVELOPMENT: As you will see in the 2nd part of the video, we have added a 2nd passer. This is to develop the exercise. Now, if the defender successfully stops the first pass from passer 1, they may roll underneath and receive a pass from the 2nd passer. .Sports

Handball SPIN SHOT - 4 step tutorial (advanced) - As used by Uwe Gensheimer Rune Dahmke

🎬The GENSHEIMER screw! 1️⃣ minute walkthrough! Ever wondered how superstars Uwe Gensheimer & Rune Dahmke make their world famous screw shot?! We’ve tried to sum it up in 1 MINUTE! 👉🏼 4 key points: 1️⃣ - Starting position - Elbow It is important to understand where the momentum and explosion is generated. The first key point is the starting position of the elbow. The elbow should be roughly level to the shoulder, with the ball at roughly 90 degrees to the elbow. To begin to generate the momentum needed (and to sell the goalkeeper on a shot to the near post) the elbow must be thrusted onwards, while the ball and hand remains in the same position. This will eventually become the catapult movement that generates the power in the shot 2️⃣ - Hand position. The hand position is also key to your ability to generate the screw during the final part of the movement. The ball must be gripped in a swan 🦆 like position, where the ball rests between the fingers and the forearm. With this hand position, step 4 is able to be carried out effectively 3️⃣ - Momentum - Elbow out, hand in The catapult will now be released. The elbow will be forced back to its starting position, while the ball starts to propel against and past the elbow. The generation of power is heavily dependent on the successful execution of step 1 and 2 4️⃣ - Pull and flick. Once the catapult has been released there is sufficient power to execute the shot. However, the most crucial part of the shot is the pull and flick of the fingers to generate the screw in the correct direction. With a fairly tight grip with the fingers, the hand will rotate in a clockwise motion over the top of the ball and the little fingers can be used to pull the top of the ball even further into the screw. The final flick with the little fingers will help generate even great screw on the ball Give it a go and let us know how you get on!
